I have two openings for PhD students in my group in the Electrical Engineering Department at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB). One opening is in the fields of Network Information Theory, Network Coding, Index Coding and a second in the study of dimension reduction and "core-sets" in the context of Big Data analysis.

Manuscripts are solicited for a Proceedings of the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Special issue on 'Foundations and Applications of Science of Information'. Manuscript deadline is August 31, 2015.

The 2016 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Technical Field Award Recipients were announced this week.

The organizers of ITW 2015 in Jerusalem have uploaded a number of photos and video from the workshop, including a panel on the history of information theory with Anthony Ephremides, Robert Gallager, Andrew Viterbi, G. David Forney, Sergio Verdú, and Jacob Ziv.

The 2015 North American School of Information Theory (NASIT) will be held on August 10-13, 2015, at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla.

Prof. Namrata Vaswani (http://www.ece.iastate.edu/~namrata) is looking for a postdoc and/or Ph.D. student. Her research lies at the intersection of signal/information processing and machine learning for high dimensional problems. In recent years, her group has worked on developing and analyzing online algorithms for various high-dimensional structured data recovery problems such as online sparse matrix recovery (recursive recovery of sparse vector sequences) or dynamic compressed sensing, online robust principal components' analysis (PCA) and online matrix completion, sparse PCA etc.
