91勛圖厙

The 2024 91勛圖厙 East Asian School of Information Theory (EASIT) was held from July 30 to August 2, 2024, at Shonan Village Center, Kanagawa, Japan. The EASIT 2021 was held online in Seoul, Korea and the EASIT 2022 was held as a hybrid event in Guangzhou, China, and the EASIT this year was held as a fully in-person event for the first time in this series of schools.

In this school, we focused on facilitating interaction between the information theory community and the cryptography community; to that end, we invited tutorial lecturers that attracted the interests of both communities. The main program of the school consists of 7 tutorial lectures (2.5 hours each):

  • Francesco Buscemi (Nagoya University): The Theory of Statistical Comparison: From Majorization to the Quantum Blackwell Theorem and Beyond.
  • Amin Gohari (Chinese University of Hong Kong): The Auxiliary Receiver Approach in Network Information Theory.
  • Iftach Haitner (Stellar Development Foundation and Tel Aviv University): Computational Analogues of Entropy.
  • Shuichi Hirahara (National Institute of Informatics): Meta-complexity and average-case complexity.
  • Tianren Liu (Peking University): Information-theoretic cryptography.
  • Arpita Patra (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore): Communication Complexity Landscape of Information-theoretic MPC.
  • Mary Wootters (Stanford University): List-Decoding and List-Recovery of Algebraic Codes, and Applications.

We also had poster sessions, and 45 posters were presented over two days; three were recognized as outstanding presentation awards. In the afternoon of August 1, we went on a half-day excursion to Kamakura, a sightseeing spot famous for the Great Buddha.

The number of participants (including organizing committees and lecturers) was about 60, and half of them were from outside of Japan. Furthermore, almost half of the participants had expertise in information theory, and the rest had expertise in cryptography. Thus, we hope that the school was a good opportunity for researchers in both fields to interact.

The success of EASIT 2024 was the result of significant effort from various people. Particularly, we would like to thank Shigeaki Kuzuoka (Wakayama University) for being the finance chair, Yujie Gu (Kyushu University) for being the publicity chair, and Shota Yamada (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) for being the program chair. We also would like to thank financial support from the 91勛圖厙 Information Theory Society, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Kayamori Foundation of Informational Science Advancement, HUAWEI, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science KAKENHI (23H00468, 23K17455, 24H00071).
